A Glimpse Into Our Retreat Space

The location – Quinta do Rabaçal

Nestled along the Mondego River in Central Portugal, Quinta do Rabaçal is an off-grid retreat set within a protected ecological zone – 40 acres of river, forest, and unspoiled landscape, just 2 km from the nearest village. This is a place to truly switch off.

The quinta runs entirely on green energy, for both power and heating, so you can rest easy knowing your stay treads lightly on the earth.

Accommodation & Living Spaces

Experience a perfect balance of nature, simplicity, and comfort in our traditional stone houses. Each home is filled with character, featuring a cozy living area, a kitchenette, and stunning views of the river and nature reserve from every window.

Room Options & Comfort

Choose between a Private Room or a Shared Twin Room. To ensure a deep, restorative sleep, all beds are equipped with high-quality memory foam mattresses, bamboo quilts, and locally sourced wool blankets.

To maintain your privacy and comfort, bathroom facilities are shared between only two rooms. Whether you seek solitude or a communal feel, our houses offer a grounded atmosphere designed for true unplugging.

Facilities

At the heart of the quinta is our 300m² open-air dojo-style studio with river views — a beautiful setting for yoga and movement sessions. The large infinity pool and al-fresco hot tub share the same view, alongside a wood-fired sauna and dedicated massage and treatment rooms.

A shaded boathouse leads down to the river, where stand-up paddleboards and kayaks are available to explore the water and nearby river beaches. Mountain bikes are on hand for those who want to venture into the forest paths.

In the evenings, gather at the outdoor barbecue and bar area, complete with loungers and a ping-pong table — simple pleasures in beautiful surroundings.

Food & Nourishment

All meals are fully included throughout your stay – full board, three times a day, prepared fresh by our chefs using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. On arrival day one meal is served, and on departure day two meals are included.

The menu is vegetarian, nutritious, and varied, with an emphasis on whole foods and regional flavours. It is designed to support the cleansing process of the retreat, helping your body feel nourished, light, and strong throughout. Vegan and gluten-free options are available on request — simply let us know your dietary needs in advance and we will take care of the rest.

A tea, coffee, and fresh fruit station is available to all guests throughout the day, open from morning until evening.

Sophia is a yoga and meditation teacher with over 15 years of experience. Specializing in Yoga Therapy and group facilitation, she blends deep professional expertise with a warm, authentic presence.

Sophia’s passion lies in bridging the gap between ancient yoga wisdom and modern daily life, turning spiritual concepts into practical tools for healing and fulfillment. She leads international retreats and workshops, teaches mindfulness, and is currently based in Portugal

Kate James

Kate holds a degree in Biology and has worked in sports rehabilitation, massage, and nutrition since 2010. Qualified in a range of massage techniques, she takes a holistic approach to supporting health and wellbeing.

In 2017, she founded Quinta do Rabaçal, creating a peaceful retreat space in rural Portugal. Since then, she has also trained in Five Elements Yoga and continues to study the herbal medicine of native Portuguese plants, integrating this knowledge into her work.

Kate offers a warm, supportive environment where guests can relax, restore, and reconnect.

Good to Know

Our sessions offer a beautiful balance between stillness and movement. You will experience calming Yin and soft, slow-flow yoga alongside more dynamic practices that blend Hatha and the 5 Elements. Every class is infused with therapeutic yoga touches, making the practice accessible and supportive for all levels, while incorporating breathwork and meditation.

Not at all. Beginners are very welcome, and all sessions are guided with options to suit different levels and abilities.

Each day usually begins with a morning yoga practice, followed by a nourishing breakfast. Afternoons are free for rest, nature walks, or optional activities. In the evening, we gather again for a slower, more restorative session or meditation.

Everything is optional. This is your retreat. you're encouraged to move at your own pace and choose what feels right for you each day.

We keep the group small (up to 20 guests) to ensure a personal, supportive, and relaxed atmosphere.

Comfortable yoga clothing, layers for cooler mornings and evenings, walking shoes, and anything that helps you relax (journal, book, etc.). Yoga mats may be provided, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer.

Absolutely. Many guests come solo, and it’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with like-minded people while still having space for yourself.

Book your flight to Lisbon Airport (LIS) in Lisbon, Portugal, or Porto Airport (OPO) in Porto, Portugal. From Lisbon, the journey to Coimbra takes approximately 2.5 hours, and from Porto, around 2 hours.

We recommend taking a train (CP – Comboios de Portugal) or a bus (Rede Expressos) to Coimbra, as both options are frequent, reliable, and scenic.

From Coimbra, the easiest and most comfortable way to reach the retreat is via our organized group shuttle, which brings you directly to our riverside sanctuary.

We highly recommend this option for a smooth and stress-free arrival.

Securing Your Place A deposit of €200 is required to confirm your booking. Alternatively, you may pay the full amount at the time of booking. Payment plans are available upon request.

Final Payment The remaining balance must be paid in full no later than 14 days before the retreat start date.

Cancellation Policy We understand that life happens. If you need to cancel:

  • More than 30 days before the retreat: full refund of all payments made
  • Less than 30 days before the retreat: no cash refund — however, the full amount paid (including the deposit) will be issued as a voucher valid for any of our retreats taking place within 12 months of the original retreat date

Transferring Your Place Can't make it? You're welcome to transfer your spot to another person, subject to prior approval.

Voucher Terms Vouchers are valid for 12 months from the original retreat date and may be applied to any of our upcoming retreats within that period.

We recommend purchasing travel insurance to cover unforeseen circumstances.
